Wndrfalk

Data

Wndrfalk has no account and no server where your projects are stored. The developer receives no project data.

Storage location

Your projects, tasks and settings are in your browser's storage on this device. They leave the device only when you trigger it: when you share or when you export a file.

Wndrfalk cannot restore lost data. So export regularly.

Data is lost when:

  • you delete the website data in the browser
  • under Me you choose Delete all data on this device and confirm with the word DELETE in capital letters. Until it is typed exactly like that, Delete permanently stays inactive.
  • you open another browser or another profile. Every browser has its own storage.
  • the browser cleans up when space runs short and storage protection is off
  • you lose or reset the device

Safari can delete the data of a website if you don't use it for seven days. Apple describes the rule on the WebKit blog. According to that post, web apps added to the home screen have their own counter.

If the device storage is full and the browser refuses to save, new changes are no longer saved. Export your data and free up space.

Storage protection

Storage protection asks the browser not to delete the data on its own. The browser decides whether to grant it. Some browsers don't support it.

Tap Me › Storage protection. The page shows whether it is on or off. Request storage protection asks the browser. Afterwards it says “Storage protection granted.” or “The browser didn't grant storage protection.”

Wndrfalk does not encrypt the stored data on the device itself. If your device is encrypted, the screen lock and device encryption protect this data. Set up a screen lock if you haven't yet.

Export

With Export data, you save all projects and tasks as a file or text.

  1. Tap Me › Export and import data.
  2. Tap Export data.
  3. If needed, write a Password (optional).
  4. Tap Save as file or Copy as text.

With a password, the file is encrypted. Without a password, anyone who has the file can read it.

Wndrfalk remembers when you last saved or shared a file. The line Last exported appears where you export, or Never exported. If you have never exported, Today shows a calm note after seven days. After an export it appears after seven days at the earliest, and only if something has changed since. You close it with the cross. After you have closed it several times, it offers Stop reminding me. On iPhone and iPad in a Safari tab, a one-time note points out Safari’s rule.

Import

With Import data, you read the file back in on the same or another device.

  1. Tap Me › Export and import data and tap Import data.
  2. Tap Choose file, or paste the text under Or paste text.
  3. Write the Password (only if set).
  4. Tap Import.

What happens next depends on the device:

  • The device is empty: It takes over the data.
  • Both devices share a common history: Wndrfalk merges the changes and reports how many tasks are new, changed or removed.
  • The device has its own data without a common history: Wndrfalk asks: Replace data? Tap Replace or Cancel.

The previous data is backed up. Under Export and import data, you get it back with Restore data from before the last import. Anything added since then is lost.

If the password is missing or wrong, it says “The password is missing or incorrect, or the file is damaged.”
